Auditions for “Man of La Mancha”

The Drama Workshop, director Dennis Murphy and musical director Linda Abbott will hold auditions for the musical Man of La Mancha on September 27 and 28, 2026. Auditions will be held at the Arts Center at Dunham, 4356 Dunham Lane, 45238.

Rehearsals for Man of La Mancha will begin in early January and performances will run March 4 -22, 2027 at the Glenmore Playhouse.

Please prepare 16 to 32 bars of a ballad from a classic Broadway musical written prior to 1970. (Bring sheet music in the correct key or your own taped or electronic accompaniment.) Those auditioning will also be asked to read selected scenes from the script and to participate in a short movement audition.

One of the Muleteers plays the guitar. If you are interested in auditioning for this role, please bring your guitar and prepare a song to play at the audition.

Callbacks will be held by invitation on Wednesday, September 30 beginning at 7 p.m.

  • Miguel de Cervantes (also plays Don Quixote and Alonso Quijana) – actor/author, imprisoned by the Inquisition – [Tenor/High Baritone]
  • Cervantes’ Manservant (also plays Sancho Panza, Don Quixote’s squire) — [Tenor]
  • Barber — a traveling barber [Tenor]
  • Padre — the local priest [Tenor/High Baritone]
  • Duke – (also plays Dr. Sansón Carrasco — Antonia’s fiancé and the Knight of the Mirrors) [Baritone/Tenor]
  • Governor – (also plays Innkeeper, Maria’s husband) [Baritone]
  • Seven Muleteers:
    • Jose – smallest of the muleteers
    • Tenorio – also plays Rocinante, Quixote’s Horse
    • Paco – also plays Dapple, Panza’s Donkey
    • Juan – uses whip
    • Anselmo – most villainous [Tenor + falsetto]
    • Pedro – leader, largest of the muleteers [Tenor]
  • Guitar Player
