Show Synopsis
The Game’s Afoot (Holmes for the Holidays) is a comedy thriller set in December 1936. The story revolves around Broadway star William Gillette, who is famous for his role as Sherlock Holmes. Gillette invites his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of Christmas fun and festivities. However, the weekend takes a dark turn when one of the guests is mysteriously stabbed to death. In this isolated house filled with tricks and mirrors, Gillette must use his Sherlock Holmes persona to track down the killer before another victim appears. The play is filled with non-stop danger and laughter, making it a thrilling and entertaining experience.
Character Descriptions
Please note that the age ranges listed below are approximate and represent a general “age look” that may be required.
Age: Late 40’s-mid 50’s, male presenting
A Broadway star, famous for his role as Sherlock Holmes. He is charming, witty, and has a commanding presence. William invites his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of fun and festivities.
Age: Late 60’s to late 70’s, female presenting
William’s doting mother. Her New England accent and mannerisms are indicative of her place in high society, but she is a sweet and caring woman who is always concerned about her son’s well-being.
Age: Mid 40’s – mid 50’s, male presenting
William’s best friend and fellow actor. He is a bit of a jokester and always tries to lighten the mood with his humor.
Age: Mid 40’s – mid 50’s, female presenting
Felix’s wife and another member of the acting troupe. She is strong-willed and has a no-nonsense attitude.
Age: Mid to late 20’s, female presenting
A young, beautiful actress who is part of the cast. She is charming and has a mysterious air about her.
Age: Late 20’s – early 30’s, male presenting
Aggie’s boyfriend and a fellow actor. He is handsome, charismatic, and deeply in love with Aggie. He appears to be a little dim-witted at times.
Age: Late 40’s – late 50’s, female presenting
A theater critic who is known for her sharp tongue and biting reviews. Glamourous, gorgeous, (and she knows it) and aside from her cattiness, she has a sense of humor. She has built her career from the ground up. Daria is invited to the castle for the weekend and adds an element of tension to the group.
Age: Mid 40’s – mid 50’s, female presenting
A local police inspector, called to the castle to investigate the murder. She is intelligent, observant, and determined to solve the case.
