As they await news of his status from the hospital, past resentments bubble to the surface and the sisters are forced to deal with assorted relatives and past relationships while coping with Babe’s impending trial. Each sister is forced to face the consequences of her own “crimes of the heart”.

Babe Botrelle, 24, the youngest sister. Babe is the most fragile of the sisters. A dreamer and innocent, she’s not quite sure what all the fuss is about her shooting her husband.
Chick Boyle, 29, the sisters’ first cousin. Chick is brassy, loud and continually passes judgment on her cousins and how they live their lives.

Barnette Lloyd, 26, Babe’s lawyer. Barnette is a recent law school graduate who is competent beyond his years. He has a soft spot for Babe and wants to protect her from her abusive husband.
